The Creativity Project | Storytelling

Storytelling

Some people look at me like I am crazy for the amount of sea glass I have collected this month!
"It's just glass" they say...
I look at it another way...
This story is about me collecting but each piece of glass has its own story.
It has been on its own adventure from creation by man to art form by nature.
Ravaged by storms, unknown origins, lengths of travel, and age. Hints of writing give me clues.
One piece said Keyport, NJ on it, another said ART...
All of them have been on their own journeys driven by man and nature.
Here are my photos from my collecting adventures.
The entrance to my little sea glass beach

My cleaning set up with home made sifter and bench made from a pallet.

This is what 2400 pieces of sea glass looks like. All collected from the same beach in 5 or 6 short trips there.

Thanks for checking out my blog and I hope you will do the same for Stephanie - http://creativeheartbystephanie.blogspot.com

  1. Oh wow! You got some pretty interesting pieces there. If only these pieces could talk, imagine what stories they could tell. I love how you laid them all out on the table. I was about to suggest that you have some them fused together for use as a tray of sorts... =)

  2. I love your sea glass collection. I've always wanted to do that, but have never been in an area to collect it. Thanks so much for sharing your collection and your story Dan.

  3. Oh my word; I am actually jealous over here! We spend time every year in Destin FL, but I guess the Gulf Coast (or at least that part of it) just doesn't get much sea glass. Do you make jewelry with it? I could see making stepping stones, or even finding a way to incorporate it into a picture frame with a collage of these photos! They are beautiful!

    1. I think the best sea glass beach in the country is in CA. I can't remember the name of it but its pretty much 100% sea glass.

  7. Living on the Jersey shore it seems sea glass hunting is a normal everyday activity. It's always been a part of my life. Reading some of the other comments I realize it really is something special. What I like most {aside from the beautiful images. Those clouds!} is the idea of the history behind each piece and the process and journey it made to be in that exact spot at that exact time. I don't think it's coincidence you happened to find a piece that said "art". That piece was meant for you...

  8. can i just say...your opening was such a delight, it made me smile from ear to ear. dan, you are such a *pinch-able* soul ^_^

i love your collection (and the photos to match). i am amazed at how tiny and large 2400 pieces of glass can look at the exact same time. they are soooo pretty, i can see how one can become attracted to them. if i lived by a beach, i'd collect them, too, for SURE (of course, i'm a crafter, so by now, they'd be attached to all sorts of things)...i love the shot of your the glass in your hand and the one that says "art" most especially, btw...(and that 11th photo, with the sea in the distance...you can feel the energy of the entire space of the place). great post, mr. nature!
